Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma yesterday assured that the Government will examine the suggestion of leading a delegation of all 60 legislators to the national capital to press for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

He also added that the State Government would have to push for the implementation of ILP with the Central Government.

Replying to a query by suspended Congress MLA from Mawlai, PT Sawkmie in the Assembly, Sangma assured that the state government would continue to pursue with the Centre for immediate implementation of the ILP in the state.

Meanwhile, CM Sangma informed that the state government had also submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Shillong on January 23, 2021. And, that the demand is being examined by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Responding to a supplementary question by Sawkmie, the Chief Minister said that the only plan of the state government is to pursue and to convince the Government of India that ILP is implemented in the state.

And, in reply to Sawkmie’s example of Manipur as a State that has been granted the ILP after its third resolution, Sangma informed that multiple letters have been sent to the MHA after the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution urging the Centre to implement ILP in the state on December 19, 2019.
