One Manipur Police Commando lost his life and 5 others were injured In the fierce gunbattle that took place yesterday morning between the commandos and armed militants

Tribal United Volunteer (TUV) has refuted the Manipur government’s claims that suspected SoO cadres were involved in the attack on a Manipur police team in an area along the border of Bishnupur and Churachandpur yesterday morning in which one Manipur police commando was killed and at least 5 others sustained injuries.

A release by TUV said that it was the local tribal village defence volunteers who fired at the police team after being allegedly attacked first.

Yesterday’s shootout took place when gunmen sprayed bullets on a Manipur commando patrol team at Trongloubi in Moirang under Bishnupur district killing a Manipur police commando and injuring 5 others.

The deceased has been identified as a rifleman of the 5th Manipur Rifles who was attached to the Bishnupur district commando unit.

The injured persons were immediately shifted to Bishnupur district hospital first and later rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and another private hospital in Imphal.

The fresh incident of shootout comes after the attack on an Assam Rifles column out on area domination in Dolaithabi in Imphal East on Wednesday, May 10. An Assam Rifles jawan received injuries in the incident.
