First Published: 1st October, 2022 11:57 IST

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed that the government is preparing a blueprint or a white paper as demanded by the CADA.

Amidst the move by the government of Manipur to prepare a blueprint for liquor legalization, the protest against lifting the liquor ban continues in the state.

Civil bodies including Coalition against Drugs and Alcohol as well as women groups including Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai Meira Paibi, staged a Mera Khongchat or a torch rally last evening displaying their resentment against liquor legalization. The protestors staged the rally from Ningombam to Langthabal, in Imphal West District.

It needs to be mentioned here that, earlier on Friday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed that the government is preparing a blueprint or a white paper as demanded by the CADA.

The Chief Minister said that the blueprint along with ‘dos and don’ts’ to be followed while brewing and selling liquor, once legalized, will be issued within a short period of time.

He clarified that the government will not be taking any decision haphazardly and there will be due consideration with stakeholders once the blueprint is finalized.

He added that legalisation is the solution to adulteration since no one will be allowed to sell unstandardized alcohol considering the health hazards.
