Sushila’s silver result of her indomitable spirit: Mother Chaobi Devi
Sushila’s mother further revealed that she had a conversation late on Monday night where she praised her daughter’s indomitable spirit.
India’s medal rush at the commonwealth games continues with another athlete from the region, Judoka Sushila Devi from Manipur winning silver in the women’s judo 48kg final, giving India its seventh medal at the multi-sport event.
Team Northeast Live paid a visit to Sushila Devi’s residence at Heingang Mayai Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal east and had an exclusive conversation with Sushila’s mother, Likmabam Chaobi Devi.
Chaobi Devi revealed that her daughter had gotten injured during practice just before the Games began, thus casting a shadow of doubt and concern over her family back home on whether she would even be fit enough to participate.
Chaobi Devi further lauded her daughter’s fighting spirit as, despite injury, Sushila Devi managed to push through the pain and bring back a medal for the country.
Sushila’s mother further revealed that she had a telephonic conversation with her daughter late on Monday night where she praised her daughter’s indomitable spirit and also assured her of a hero’s welcome upon her return back home.
Sushila Devi had to settle for silver after suffering a defeat against South Africa’s Michaela Whitebooi by a Waza-Ari at the Coventry Arena Judo Mat 2.
The match between the two Judokas was hard fought. In the match, both players received a second Shido apiece and both judokas were on two penalties each, however, Michaela Whitebooi won the gold with a leg sweep.
