Shocking case of ragging from Manipur’s Churachandpur district

A case of ragging has been reported yet again from the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School at Tuinom in Churachandpur District, after a student unable to bear the brunt of the seniors, allegedly tried to commit suicide.
As per sources, the incident occurred on the intervening night of September 25 and 26. Students of class 12 woke up their juniors from class 6 to 8, assembled them in an open field, and trashed them black and blue.
As a result, one of the students unable to bear the brunt of the seniors tried to jump into a well but was saved in the nick of time.
Earlier too the school had reported similar cases of ragging. Time and again, leaders of the local Student union have asked the School Authorities to put an end to the incidents. Despite assurance from the Principal, the ragging continues.
Earlier in March, a Class 9 student refuse to appear for his final examination after he was ragged by his seniors.
Leaders of Siamsinpawlpi headed by General Secretary Thangzamang Ngaihte, along with other leaders met Principal S Sanamacha Singh on Tuesday, the student union suggested holding a legal awareness campaign.
Reportedly, similar suggestions were made to the principal during the previous meeting however they fell to materialize allegedly due to the principal’s lack of concern.
