Over 38 government and government-aided schools in Manipur will have sanitary pad vending machines.
To ensure menstrual health and hygiene in Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today launched the Chief Minister’s Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (CMMHS) during a function held at Wangkhei High School in Imphal East.
Under the scheme, over 38 government and government-aided schools in Manipur will have sanitary pad vending machines.
The Chief Minister’s Menstrual Hygiene Scheme ensures free access to sanitary napkins for every girl student.
The main objectives of the scheme include free delivery of high-quality sanitary napkins to school-going adolescent girls, to cover both urban and rural school going adolescent girls, to increase awareness on menstrual hygiene, and to ensure safe disposal of sanitary napkins in an environmentally friendly manner.
The government has also planned to expand the scheme and cover remaining schools across the state.
Speaking to Northeast Live, girl students of Wangkhei High School have expressed joy and positivity that the scheme will help in the empowerment of the girl students, raise awareness on menstrual hygiene, and do away with social taboos associated with menstruation.
Meanwhile, CM N Biren Singh launched Chief Ministergi Mitki Layeng (CMML) to provide free cataract treatment to the elderly, another significant boost to the health sector. Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances for 14 districts were also handed over to the officials concerned.
During the occasion, the Chief Ministergi Mitki Layeng (CMML) and National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) were also integrated with the Chief Minister’s Health for All (CMHA) to ensure door-to-door screening for cataracts and tuberculosis.
