One UPPK Cadre Arrested in Manipur’s Kakching

The arrested UPPK cadre has been identified Sougrakpam Kingson Singh (35).

Continuing its crackdown on militancy in Manipur, the state police have arrested one cadre of the proscribed United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) in Kakching district on Saturday.

The arrested UPPK cadre has been identified Sougrakpam Kingson Singh (35), a resident of Hiyanglam Lai Pangamba Manak, Kakching district.

Earlier, in August 2024, police arrested one cadre of the outfit identified as Nameirakpam Ningthou Meitei (42) of Khongman Basikhong, Imphal East district from Thamnapokpi, under Moirang Police Station.

He was allegedly involved in extortion of money from the general public.

The Manipur Police also destroyed 25 acres of poppy plantation in Kangpokpi as part of its ongoing crackdown on narcotics and the drug menace.

In a major achievement under the war on drugs initiative, a joint team from the Kangpokpi District Police and two platoons of the 133 Bn. CRPF carried out the operation in Y Langkhong village, Kangpokpi and destroyed poppy plantation.
