Majority of the rivers are flowing above the danger level. The worst affected villages are Tentha, Sangaiyumpham, Khangabok and Thoubal Leishangthem

Thousands of people have been rendered homeless, hundreds of acres of standing crop have been destroyed and close to 1000 people have taken shelter in 8 relief camps as Thoubal, a district of Manipur, reel under floods caused by incessant rains since August 22.

The continuous rains have resulted in the Wangjing, Tentha, Khangabok and Thoubal rivers swelling up, many of them breaching their banks and inundating paddy fields and villages.

Water level in many of the paddy fields rose by at least 3 centimetres since last night.

The worst affected villages are Tentha, Sangaiyumpham, Khangabok and Thoubal Leishangthem.

At least 200 acres of standing crop have been destroyed in the rains that has entered its fourth day today. Roads have turned into rivers, and homes are almost submerged.

Following the situation, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a public advisory urging all residents to exercise extreme caution.

In light of the severe weather conditions, the district authority advised people to stay alert and remain indoor taking all necessary precautions to avoid loss of life and properties.

The advisory also advised to avoid or postpone agricultural activities till the weather is clear and rain subsides.

There has been no reports of any deaths so far.
