Manipur Unrest Day 26: Army arrests 22 armed men, recovers cache of arms and ammo; major arson averted

Indian Army has arrested as many as 22 miscreants and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition. Incidents of arson too was averted in Manipur which has been on the boil for almost a month now due to ethnic clashes since May 3, 2023.
As per inputs, yesterday after receiving information about armed miscreants venturing out for burning houses in Sanasabi, Gwaltabi and Shabunkhol Khunao in YKPI Bowl in the hilly region of Imphal East district of Manipur, Army mobilised columns on 28 May to establish multiple Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) and undertake search operations in the area, an Army statement said today.
The Army columns were fired upon from automatic weapons by miscreants who were trying to burn the houses. Acting swiftly, the Army team successfully apprehended the 22 miscreants with weapons and other war-like stores.
Army recovered five 12 bore double barrel rifles, three single-barrel rifles, one country-made weapon with double bore and one muzzle-loaded weapon.
All the 22 miscreants along with apprehended weapons and war-like stores were handed over to Manipur Police.
