Manipur: Student abducted from college hostel rescued by police in less than 24 hours

Preliminary investigations reveal that the abductors are the members of a Manipur based insurgent group. Further probe into the matter is underway
In a daring pre-dawn crackdown, the Manipur Police today foiled an abduction bid and rescued a student of DM College of Science in Imphal who was abducted last afternoon. Investigations so far have revealed that the student was abducted by cadres of a Manipur based insurgent group.
It was indeed a sensational case of abduction, since the victim was abducted from the New Boy’s Hostel of the DM College in broad daylight yesteday (Friday) afternoon.
Soon after receiving information about the abduction, police swung into action and carried out raids in different parts of Imphal West district to trace the victim and rescue him.
During the course, police made the breakthrough and rescued the victim from a house Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai under the Wangoi Police Station. Police said that the abductors had demanded Rs 15 lakh as ransom for the safe release of the student.
Sharing details about the operation SP Imphal West Shivakanta Singh informed, “Today, at about 1 am, Imphal PS received a complaint regarding kidnapping of one person namely Laishram Chinglen Singh, aged 22 years from DM College of Science New Boy’s Hostel on namely Laishram Chinglen on December 8 at about 1:30 PM. The kidnappers demanded the parents of the person a ransom of Rs. 15 lakhs for his safe release, threatening that failure to comply would result in their son being returned as a dead body.
On receipt of the information, Imphal West District Police immediately activated and raids were conducted at different places and at around 2 am, today, a team from the Imphal West District Police carried out raid at Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, under the jurisdiction of Wangoi PS. During the raid, the missing person was found and rescued from a house belonging to one Asem Chaoba (63) alongside four suspected kidnappers, with another four suspected kidnappers nearby in two vehicles. The police team swiftly apprehended suspected kidnappers during the operation.”

“From preliminary inquiry, it is revealed that the kidnappers belong to the KCP(PWG) group and they are working under one Lamyanba Khuman,” the Imphal SP stated.
2 rifles, 1 pistol and several rounds of live ammunition 2 cars were seized from the possession of the abductors.
Further probe into the matter is underway.
