Manipur: Spike in dengue cases in Churachandpur district has prompted the govt to take strong steps. 1st case in Ccpur was detected in Jan.

Alarming spike in dengue cases in Manipur’s Churachandpur district has now raised serious concern. 3 new cases have been detected taking the total number of cases in the district to 58.

District Malaria Officer of Churachandpur, Dr Liangoumnuan, spoke to our correspondent MK Henry that several steps have been taken up to prevent the further spread of dengue.

These initiatives include fogging activities, larvae studies activities, by different staffs and teams of the health department. Meanwhile, NGOs, Village authorities as well as Church bodies have been roped in to assist the health department in controlling the situation.

Dr Liangoumnuan said, “If new cases are detected, than our team goes to the residence or the particular area for case study, collecting blood samples for sending it to RHIMS or JNIMS RL for confirmation.”

Besides, the Churachandpur DMO also added, “general public are mainly advised to use mosquito repellent, mosquito coils, discard any unused tyres or bottles, wear full sleeves and long dresses to cover most parts of the body.”

However, Dr Liangoumnuan said the possibility in increasing of the cases is still there because it is impossible to reach out to every household in the district and make them aware.

“But the government is still trying to make people aware through newspaper, television and other sources.” said Liangoumuan.

It may be mentioned that dengue testing is fully available at the District Hospital in Churachandpur.
