Manipur minister diverts salary for widows, orphans & disabled
Awangbou Newmai is diverting 60 to 70% of his salary for supporting the needy which he is planning to continue till the end of his tenure
In positive news coming in from Manipur, an elected representative has launched a scheme to uplift widows, orphans, and the disabled too from his own salary.
Manipur’s Minister of Water Resources Department and Disaster Relief Management Awangbou Newmai has launched a scheme on his own initiative to uplift widows, orphans, and the disabled in his home constituency Tamei.
Launched on Tuesday at Sangaithel Resort by Minister Newmai, the ceremony was attended among others by members of the Autonomous District Council, representatives of civil society organizations, and church leaders from Tamei and Tousem sub-divisions.
Minister Awangbou Newmai is diverting 60 to 70% of his salary for supporting the needy which he is planning to continue till the end of his tenure in 2027 or even further.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Awangbou Newmai stated that the idea behind launching this initiative is to mainly benefit those people who are left out of benefits from Government schemes.
Newmai further said that as a representative of the people, one should not wait for government schemes but come forward for a noble cause on their own.
Dikham Golmei, a social worker from Tamei assembly constituency while talking to Northeast Live said that he is grateful to Awangbou Newmai for this initiative. He further expressed hope that the scheme will again cover many left out and needy people.
Meanwhile, ADC members from Tousem Sub Division Ramingle Pame also appreciated the noble act of Awangbou Newmai and said that the scheme will cover many needy people. She said that this noble scheme will reach people and would be a boon for many needy people residing in Tamei and Tousem sub-divisions.
