A pall of gloom has gripped Manipur’s Kangpokpi district following the demise of Paominlal alias Momosa Khongsai, who is not less than a hero for the people.

Momocha who breathed his last on Friday evening has left lasting imprints in the minds of the citizens in the state through his uncountable act of humanity, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 outbreak.

A brave driver, by profession, known for his selfless efforts in evacuating stranded returnees, has passed away Friday evening, leaving behind a legacy of courage and compassion.

During the height of the pandemic, when fear and uncertainty gripped the region, Momocha had stepped forward to help those in dire need. With transport services severely disrupted and many people left stranded far from home, Momocha along with a few other drivers, volunteered to drive across hazardous and often treacherous routes to bring back residents who were stuck in different parts of the country.

His dedication did not waver even when faced with the risk of infection.

Equipped with personal protective equipment, provided by the District Police, Momocha made countless trips, from Kangpokpi to Jiribam, ensuring the safe return of hundreds of individuals to their families.

His actions not only provided physical relief but also offered emotional comfort to those anxious about the well-being of their loved ones.

Momocha’s bravery earned him widespread admiration and respect within the community. Local authorities and citizens alike have expressed their profound grief and gratitude for his contributions.

“Momocha was a beacon of hope during our darkest days. His commitment to helping others was unparalleled,” said a local authority leader.

“He will forever be remembered as Kangpokpi’s Corona Hero”, he added.
A solem condolence service was held at his Enjakhup Veng Ward No.18 residence to honour his life and legacy.

Later, in the afternoon, his burial ceremony was held at the town’s cemetery led by St. Thomas Believers Eastern Church Kangpokpi, where he was one of the active members.

Momocha’s passing is a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by many frontline workers during the pandemic.

As Kangpokpi bids farewell to its beloved hero, his story serves as an enduring testament to the power of altruism and the impact one individual can have in times of crisis.
