‘Manipur insurgent groups involved in poppy cultivation’, CM N Biren Singh

This indeed is a big statement by the Manipur Chief Minister when his government has intensified the war on drugs.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today said that some insurgent groups of the state are involved in poppy cultivation.

This indeed is a big statement by the Manipur Chief Minister when his government has intensified the war on drugs.

Not only this, N Biren Singh said that the involvement of insurgent groups has increased the periphery of poppy cultivation in the state.

However, Chief Minister N Biren Singh maintained that insurgency problems in Manipur as well as in other parts of the Northeast have reduced by almost 75 percent, although a few groups are still involved in different illegal activities.

N Biren Singh also said that insurgents are coming from the other side of the border and to curb this border fencing is of utmost importance.

The Manipur Chief Minister said that he has already raised the issue of border fencing with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and fencing work for a stretch of 40-km has already started. Border fencing for another 60-km stretch will be taken up soon.
