Manipur: Demand for ST status for Meteis grows louder by day

The STDCM warned that if the government continues to remain indifferent, the organization will resort to “other intensive forms of agitation”.

The demand for ST status is growing louder by the day. The Schedule Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) which has been staging protests since August 26 is now determined to intensify its agitation demanding the inclusion of indigenous Meitei on the Schedule Tribe list.

Speaking to the media, the STDCM stated that the organization has been urging the state government for sending necessary recommendations to the Government of India for the inclusion of Meiteis of Manipur on the Schedule Tribe list for almost 10 years now. However, the government has not responded positively.

The STDCM warned that if the government continues to remain indifferent, the organization will resort to “other intensive forms of agitation”.
