Manipur which shares a porous boundary with Myanmar is facing serious consequences as far as drugs trade & insurgency issue is concerned.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that key issues confronting the state will be discussed at length during his meeting with Union Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati.

The union home minister is scheduled to chair a meeting with chief ministers and police chiefs of all the Northeastern states on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Chief Minister N. Biren said that border fencing, drugs and illegal arms trade in border areas besides insurgency are the key issues that will top the agenda of the talks.

It may be mentioned here that Manipur shares nearly 400 km of porous border with Myanmar and the home affairs ministry had commenced border fencing to curb illicit trafficking, trade and infiltration of immigrants.

Pressure groups like the United Committee Manipur (UCM) had also mounted pressure on the government to solve the border issues based on the traditional boundaries as per the Rangoon Agreement and carry out border fencing without compromising Manipur’s land.
