Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is in New Delhi and is holding high-level discussions on the situation in the state and the possibility of ending the 14-month long blistering ethnic violence that has taken more than 200 lives.

Highly placed sources said that the Manipur CM arrived in Guwahati yestrday and left for new Delhi early today.

It is not immediately known whether N Biren Singh had a meeting with NEDA convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his visit to Guwahati.

N Biren’s visit to New Delhi assumes significance as it comes less than a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in Manipur at a meeting attended by the country’s topmost security officials including the Army Chief, Army chief designate, the chief of IB, local army and paramilitary commanders on ground in Manipur among others. Earlier, the Union Home Minister also held discussions with with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey and is understood to have received a detailed report on the ground situation. Biren’s presence in New Delhi has also trigerred speculations on whether some crucial decisions are likely on the Manipur situation.

As per sources, N Biren Singh is also likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Chances are that the Modi 3.0 government may immediately launch steps to initiate dialogue between the two warring sides at a neutral location soon.
