Manipur Cabinet decides to review overlapping of villages in districts

In a bid to facilitate efficient administration, the Manipur government has decided to scrutinise the overlapping of villages in various districts of the state.

The decision was taken in today’s cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at CM Secretariat.

Speaking to the media about today’s cabinet decisions at his office at New Secretariat in Imphal, the state IPR minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan said that over 500 villages are registered in more than one district. Such overlapping of villages is causing major problems in administration, he said.

Saying that the government will not allow such overlapping, he said that respective DCs will be instructed to scrutinise and streamline the locations at the earliest.

Today’s cabinet also discussed the governor’s address for the 3rd session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly which is scheduled to commence from February 2.

He maintained that the cabinet also approved the creation of posts for legal officers in 7 departments including home, PWD, PHED among others.

He went on to say that cabinet also approved the bifurcation of 90 police personnel from Imphal West for the prosecution branch.

The cabinet also approved amendments to the Dhanamanjuri University Act.

It also approved faculty recruitment for the newly opened Churachandpur Medical College and the upgradation of healthcare facilities.

As promised by Chief Minister N Biren Singh during his recent visit to Jessami in Ukhrul district, the IPR minister announced that the cabinet approved the upgradation of Jessami primary health centre to a community health centre. The Tamei PHC will also be upgraded to CHC, he added.

Today’s cabinet also approved ex-gratia of an amount of Rs 4 lakh for those killed in the tragic road mishap along Old Cachar Road on December 21 last year and financial assistance based on extent of injuries for those injured in the accident.
