At least 10 Assam Rifles had a narrow escape after suspected militants attacked the vehicle they were travelling in at Tengnoupal district in Manipur. Top Assam Rifles officials said that the militants triggered an IED blast and fired upon the vehicle.

The ambush took place around 8:30 AM this morning. Combing operations have begun to trace down the perpetrators.

The Assam Rifles personnel were on board a mine protected vehicle when they came under attack. The AR personnel retaliated strongly to the attack. Which rebel group was behind orchestrating this attack is yet to be ascertained.

This is the second such attack in less than 3 weeks where security personnel engaged in maintaining peace in the trouble-torn state have been targetted.

On October 31, a Manipur Police personnel was shot dead by unidentified armed gunmen at border town Moreh. The assailants shot at the cop with a sniper while he was inspecting the newly constructed helipad at Eastern Ground, under Moreh police station.
