Manipur: All illegal structures on Govt land to be evicted by next week

The Manipur Government today issued eviction orders to remove all illegal and unauthorised structures on government land by the next week of July.
The District Administration of Imphal East and Imphal West have issued stern warnings to individuals and structures encroaching on government lands and state properties, directing the removal of all illegal occupation and unauthorised structures by July 17 in Imphal East and July 21 in Imphal West.
In a notice, Deputy Commissioner of the Imphal East district, Khumanthem Diana Devi said that encroachments have been identified along National Highways, State Roads, Inter Village Roads, river banks, and drains which created public inconveniences, traffic congestions, drainage issues, river bank breaches etc. Therefore, she directed that all such illegal occupation of government khas lands and state lands should be vacated by the encroachers by 17th July, 2024.
Concerned authorities, magistrates, and line departments have been directed to carry out removal and an eviction drive without further notice if encroachers fail to vacate by the specified deadline.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Imphal West DC, Th Kiran Kumar said, “Generally, nobody should encroach on the state land, but a section of people have been encroaching on government land either in the roadside or various river banks. Earlier also removed many such illegal structures from these sites, but they repeatedly occupied and illegally installed some structures again which caused inconvenience to the public. We will evict these encroachers following the law. We have given them a specific timeline to vacate the sites. We are looking forward to the corporation of the public in this regard.”
