Soma Laishram has also been banned from taking part in social events for a period of 3 years

Popular Manipuri actor Soma Laishram has been banned from acting in films for the next 3 years. Not only this, Laishram has also been prohibited from attending any social event for the same time period.

This surprising development comes after the the actor participated in the recent North East Festival held at the national capital. Soma took part as a showstopper at a beauty pageant in the festival at the Talkatora Stadium on September 16, which irked the Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), a self-styled civil society organisation in her home state.

If reports are to be believed, the civil society organisation was angered after the actor chose to take part in the event at a time when crisis is just refusing to die in Manipur.

In a press statement, the KKL said, “This is inspite of the fact that this organization had made a general appeal to all our fellow Meitei compatriots and advised her personally to desist from participating in such celebrations while Manipur is still burning….”

The KKL accused the actor of showing total disregard to the appeal which prompted it to issue the ban.
Reports said that, the Film Forum Manipur and the Film Actors Guild Manipur in a joint statement also mentioned that they too had reached out to Laishram, appealing her to back out of the beauty pageant in light of events in Manipur.

In the meantime, some of the followers in ‘X’ have reacted sharply to the ban.

One of them posted, “Soma Laishram addressed #Manipur’s issue in Delhi – an act of social engagement. Artists need both income & freedom for self expression. Her participation didn’t weaken Manipur’s cause. The ban is nonsensical. Some people’s moral & social sensitivities may b going 2 extremes”

Another supporter of Soma, said, “🟠JUSTICE FOR SOMA 🟠
Don’t worry Soma, we love you and we will continue to support you. We won’t let terrorists ruin what you are destined to achieve and procure.”

One of Soma Laishram’s fan also shared her thoughts on ‘X’ and said, “This is so insane ..!!!! A person should have freedom to express his/her personal views..!!
Soma Laishram should be unbanned..!!

Another fan of Soma said, “KKL Baned Actor Soma Laishram for 3 years. The reason of banning her is not a good sign of her career. She as a Actor, Model, Dancer etc KKL shouldn’t interfere on her personal life. She talk about the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur in Delhi KKL shouldn’t treat her like this.”
