Manipur activist Mark Haokip apologizes for denigrating Rani Gaidinliu
Haokip said that the post was put up unintentionally and that he did not expect it to provoke serious consequences and hurt the sentiments of the people.
Rights activist Mark Haokip who was arrested for allegedly inciting enmity between communities through his social media posts has tendered an apology for “mistakenly” defaming the good image of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu in a social media post in November 2021.
Haokip said that the post was put up unintentionally and that he did not expect it to provoke serious consequences and hurt the sentiments of the people.
Haokip also appealed to the general public to accept his sincere apology.
It may be mentioned that protests had erupted in Manipur’s Churachandpur district after Mark Haokip was arrested from Delhi for allegedly inciting enmity between communities through his social media posts.
Meanwhile, reacting to the arrest of Haokip, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the law will take its own course.
CM N Biren further said that being a so-called rights activist doesn’t give an individual the freedom to post anything and everything on social media.
CM Singh termed the whole episode relating to Mark Haokip as an ugly interference by an outsider to spread hatred amongst various communities in Manipur.
