Manipur: 5 Arrested Over Viral Video of Armed Men at Village Football Match

In a major security operation, the Manipur Police have arrested 5 individuals in connection with a viral video that surfaced showing armed men playing football while carrying assault rifles in Kangpokpi district.

The incident, which has raised security concerns, was widely circulated on YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook in early February.

The video showed 10-15 individuals, some dressed in football kits and others in camouflage attire, wielding AK-series and American-origin M-series assault rifles while kicking a football around.

The firearms, notably tied with red ribbons, have sparked speculation about possible militant links.

While the video primarily showcased cultural performances and a football match, the final scenes showed heavily armed men in dark green battledress dancing at the venue.

In another operation, Manipur Police seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the Aigejang Nepali Kuti (Aigejang Ridges) area under New Keithelmanbi Police Station, Kangpokpi District. The recovered items include: One .303 Sniper Rifle (modified), 4 Pistols with magazines , two SBBL Guns, three Long Range Projectile Launchers , four Hand Grenades etc.
