Major reshuffle in Manipur Council of Ministers

In a major reshuffle, Chief Minister N Biren Singh-led Manipur government on Friday re-allocated portfolios to some of the ministers.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh, the Singjamei MLA will now look after Municipal Administration, housing, and Urban Development Department (MAHUD) and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department.

Letpao Haokip, who won from the hill district of Chandel has been given the charges of Tribal Affairs and Hills Department and Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department.

Medical, Health & Family Welfare and Publicity & Information have gone to Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, PHE & Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution to Leishanthem Susindro Meitei (Yaima), Social Welfare Department, Skill, Labour, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, and Fisheries to Heikham Dingo Singh.

Thounaojam Basanta Singh will look after Education Department, Law & Legislative Affairs Department & Kashim Vashum Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department.

Nongthombam Biren Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur for the second consecutive term on March 21, 2022, after a thumping victory in the legislative assembly polls.

A day after he was named as the leader of the newly-elected BJP legislators in the state, Singh was administered the oath of office by Governor La Ganesan.

Besides the Chief Minister, five MLAs of the BJP and its ally Naga People’s Front (NPF) were also sworn-in.

The five Ministers are — Thongam Biswajit Singh, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam, Nemcha Kipgen — all from BJP, and Awangbow Newmai of NPF were sworn in

The BJP, in the February-March elections had secured a thin majority of 32 MLAs in the 60-member Assembly and returned to the power for a second consecutive term.
