A powerful IED blast rocked Waithou Thiyam Road junction in Manipur’s Thoubal district late last night.
Although no casualty was reported, at least 3 JCBs engaged in road construction activities and a car were damaged in the blast.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving inputs and cordoned off the area. A suo-moto case has been registered at the Lilong police station and a probe into the blast is underway.
The road construction machines were engaged in the expansion of the Imphal Moreh National Highway. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Meanwhile, a vehicle lifter has been arrested in a joint operation launched by Imphal East and Thoubal Police on Saturday.
The arrested accused was identified as Makak-mayum Rafijuddin who hailed from Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai.
The joint operation was launched based on a complaint from a person whose Royal Enfield motorcycle was stolen back on April 20 from Imphal’s Advanced Hospital.
Earlier on Friday, the stolen Royal Enfield motorcycle was recovered from Lilong Turel Ahanbi Dam besides an Alto car which was used for stealing the motorcycle was also seized.
