Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high level meeting today to review the security and law and order situation in Manipur.

The meeting will be attended by Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh, Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi, the state home secretary, DGP Rajiv Singh and GOC of 3 Corps. Sources told Northeast Live that Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh will not be attending the security review meet.

The high-level meeting comes a day after Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey met the Home Minister at the North Block last evening and briefed him about the situation in Manipur that has been on the boil for more than a year now since May 4, 2023.

The meeting assumes significance since after weeks of relative peace, violence reared it’s ugly head once again in the Jiribam area which had been by and large peaceful during the 1 year of unrest. Security has since been beefed up in Jiribam.

Senior officials from Centre, state government, army and security forces are slated to attend the meet.
Worth mentioning that an advance security vehicle convoy on its way to Jiribam to receive Chief Minister N Biren Singh was ambushed on June 10 along the Imphal-Jiribam road that led to the injury of a civilian driver.

Thereafter, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had warned stern action against the perpetrators involved in the attack on his advance security team. Without mincing words, N Biren Singh had termed the incident as an attack on the people.
