"This move not only eases tensions but also creates space for reconciliation, stability, and long-term progress," said Singh.
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has lauded the decision of the members of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol to surrender their weapons, calling it a crucial turning point in the state’s peace process.
“A big step towards peace! I appreciate the decision of Arambai Tengol members to hand over weapons today, marking a crucial turning point. By choosing to step away from arms, they have opened the door for meaningful peace process. This move not only eases tensions but also creates space for reconciliation, stability, and long-term progress,” said Singh.
He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for their relentless efforts in guiding the state towards resolution and normalcy.
It may be mentioned here that the members of Arambai Tengol deposited 240 illegally held weapons at the 1st Manipur Rifles camp in Imphal on Thursday.
The surrender coincided with the last day of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s one-week deadline for the return of looted and illegally held arms.
Notably, the move follows a recent meeting between an Arambai Tengol delegation, led by Chief Korounganba Khuman, and Governor Bhalla at Raj Bhawan, highlighting ongoing efforts to foster stability in the strife-torn state.
The voluntary surrender of weapons is seen as a major step towards restoring normalcy and rebuilding trust, paving the way for lasting peace in Manipur.
