Extrajudicial killings in Manipur: SC seeks status report from Centre

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to file a status report regarding the investigation into the alleged extra judicial killings in Manipur. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to file a status report regarding the investigation into the alleged extra judicial killings in Manipur. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Hima Kohli issued the direction in a writ petition filed by Extra Judicial Execution Victim and The Human Rights Alert.

The petitioner claims to have compiled 1528 alleged extra-judicial executions carried out by the police and security forces in Manipur during 1980 to 2011.

On the other hand, the Centre has opposed the submissions and submitted that the probe is complete in 39 cases, prosecution complaints have been filed, and further investigation has been directed.
