Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday has assured action in the next 2-3 days and said that arrests would be made in the next few days with regard to the tragic killing of Seigunlal Misao, 17-year-old Class 12 student on Saturday near his house in Kangpokpi district, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) convenor Paiminlun Lhouvum said.
Speaking to Northeast Live after the JAC’s meeting with the CM this evening, the convenor also informed that the blocked of National Highway 2 has been lifted for now but if the police fail to act in the next 2-3 days, they would start their agitation seeking justice for the young life lost and his grieving family.
The JAC was set up today to ensure justice for young Misao.
Massive protests were seen yesterday and today in Manipur and the National Highway No 2 or the Trans Asian Highway was blocked over the killing of Misao, a student at Motbung Model Village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district yesterday evening.
The protesters had blocked the Highway since Saturday evening but it was cleared today after Chief Minister N Biren Singh invited the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for a meeting on the matter.
Misao (17), was appearing in the ongoing Higher Secondary Examination. He was shot dead by unknown miscreants a few metres away from his residence when he was on his way home after dropping off a friend in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
As per reports, the unknown miscreants, including a woman, fled the scene after committing the crime on a two-wheeler.
The victim was the only child of Lenkhothang Misao. His father is paralysed, and his mother is the sole bread earner of the family.
After the incident, police and the forensic department reached the spot. Kangpokpi police led by SP Th. Vikramjit Singh controlled the situation as huge enraged mobs gathered at Motbung bazaar, shouting slogans and disrupting the traffic flow.
The infuriated mobs and the deceased’s family, under the aegis of the Motbung Village Authority, decided not to claim the body unless the culprits are booked.
The mortal remains are currently kept at RIMS Mortuary.
