The All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) which happens to be the apex tribal student body in Manipur, has come out against holding the ADC elections without first introducing the HAC recommended ADC Bill, 2021 in the assembly.
This development comes after the order to the Tribal Affairs and Hills department to place before the cabinet regarding conduct of ADC election in the state.
In this regard, a consultative meeting of ATSUM, Kuki Students Organization, General Headquarters, All Naga Students Association, Manipur was held on Wednesday.
In the meeting the Student Bodies resolved to ratify its long standing demand of tabling the bill in the Manipur Legislative Assembly at the earliest possible time.
The Student bodies also resolved that the ADC election should not be conducted until the process for introduction of HAC recommended Bill 2021 in the Assembly is duly initiated.
Meanwhile ATSUM has expressed their dissatisfaction with the previous government for failing to table the bill despite inking an agreement with the three tribal student bodies.
Earlier in November, the student bodies had signed an agreement with the government after they were assured of tabling the bill in the winter session of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
