Assam CM arrives in Manipur, meeting with counterpart Biren Singh underway

During his day long visit, he would meet MLAs, CSOs and other political leaders of Manipur

Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma landed in Imphal, capital of conflict-torn Manipur some time back. He headed straight to the Manipur Secretariat for the meeting with his Manipur counterpart N Biren Singh. The meeting is underway.

CM Sarma is on a day long visit to the state. He is scheduled to meet other political leaders of the state, MLAs and Civil Society leaders.

CM Sarma’s visit comes amid continued incidents of violence and killings in some parts of the state.

Just yesterday early morning, three people including a 70-year old lady was killed in a firing by unidentified gunmen in Khoken village in Kamgpokpi district. Two people were injured in the firing.

To protest the killings, the Committee on Tribals Unity, Sadar Hill, has once again blocked National Highway No 2, the lifeline of Manipur, that passes through Kangpokpi since today.

In another incidence of violence, a low intensity IED was hurled at the residence of Manipur BJP MLA Soraisam Kebi on Thursday night, the 6th incident of a Manipur legislator’s house being attacked since violence broke out on May 3.
