5 Arrested in Major Crackdown on Insurgents and Smuggling Operations in Manipur

In a major crackdown on insurgency and illegal trade, Manipur Police and Security Forces have arrested 5 individuals in a series of coordinated operations carried out across vulnerable hill and valley districts within the last 24 hours.

The operations targeted smuggling networks, extortion rackets, and active insurgent cadres, resulting in significant seizures and disruption of anti-national activities.

Among those arrested are 4 active insurgents linked to prominent banned outfits-KCP (PWG), KYKL, UNLF (Pambei faction), and RPF/PLA alongside one individual involved in smuggling a large consignment of peacock feather shafts across the Indo-Myanmar border.

Elangbam Sailesh Singh (29) a cadre of KCP (PWG) was arrested from Leirongthel Pitra under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station, Thoubal district.

KYKL cadre Ningthoujam Romen Singh alias Nanao (35) was apprehended near 7 MR Gate, Khabeisoi under Heingang Police Station, Imphal East district.

Oinam Roshan Singh (20), cadre of UNLF (Pambei), who hails from Moidangpok Awang Leikai was arrested from Khumbong Bazar under Patsoi Police Station, Imphal West district.

Heikrujam Umakanta Singh alias Uma (26), RPF/PLA cadre was arrested from Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leirak under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district.

Sharifuddin (24), a resident of Moreh Ward No. 5, was arrested near Pallel Police Station gate in Kakching district while smuggling a massive quantity of peacock feather shafts to Myanmar without proper documentation.

Police recovered 72,000 peacock feather shafts valued at approximately Rs. 37 lakh in the international market.

During search operations in the foothills of Kumbi Setupur in Bishnupur district, security forces recovered a cache of weapons, including two SMG Carbines, one modified CMG, one DBBL Gun, and one 9mm pistol.
