Manipur: ATSUM clamps economic blockade, Trucks stranded on NH2

Rows of trucks have been stranded along the National Highway 2 near Mao gate at the Manipur Nagaland Border, due to the economic blockade called by the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur or ATSUM.

Intensifying its agitation demanding tabling of the ADC Bill and release of arrested leaders, ATSUM has also directed picketing of government offices in the hill districts of the state. 



This development comes after their call for intensification of their movement with different mode of agitations to make their demands heard.

ATSUM has called for picketing of government offices in the entire respective district while indefinite economic blockade is underway since 6 am today.



ATSUM has also warned that the state government and the Hills Area Committee shall be solely responsible for any untoward incident in the aftermath. 



Earlier, the ATSUM termed the Manipur (hill areas) district council 6th & 7th Amendment Bill 2022 that was introduced in the assembly by Tribal Affairs Minister Letpao Haokip as unacceptable. 



ATSUM also alleged that the bill is being imposed without following due process thus undermining the power and function of the Hill Area Committee.



Meanwhile as many as 5 executive members of ATSUM still remains in police custody including the President and the General Secretary of ATSUM.

The Student leaders are also placed at different police.
