Will ILP be implemented in Sikkim? The demand for bringing the Himalayan state under the ambit of the ILP has gained momentum with the Opposition Hamro Sikkim Party leaving no stone unturned to put pressure on the government. The HSP led by Bhaichung Bhutia organized a Jan Sansad or People’s Parliament to deliberate on the issue. The Jan Sansad adopted the following resolutions: (1) The Inner-Line Permit must be implemented in Sikkim without any delay. (2) The Government of Sikkim pass a Resolution to Implement the ILP in Sikkim and send it to the central government for further action. (3) The central government should implement the ILP in Sikkim at the earliest. The footballer turned politician also requested the Centre and the state government to adopt necessary resolutions and implement ILP in the state. Bhutia is apprehensive of the fact that absence of ILP in the state will help anti-nationalists to operated from the state which he considers to be a sensitive zone.
The Hamro Sikkim Party president attributed this to the growing rate of crimes and drugs menace in the state. According to Bhaichung Bhutia, outsiders are involved in 70-80% of these kind of crimes.
