Parts of northeast India are likely to start the week on a wet note due to the prevalence of southwesterly winds. The region is expected to experience widespread rain with thunderstorms and heavy rains on Monday.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon trough lies north of its normal position and is likely to continue there during the next two days, and thereafter shift southwards.

A low-pressure area is expected to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal on Thursday and is likely to move northward toward about Bangladesh.

Monday:

  • Heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and coastal Karnataka.
  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Tuesday:

  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are on the cards for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka and Kerala.
