East Indian Association of Applied Psychology (NEIAAP) and Cotton University Observes World Mental Health Month To Raise Awareness

The workshop provided both theoretical insights and practical training in mindfulness-based interventions, focusing on real-world applications in today’s fast-paced world.

The North East Indian Association of Applied Psychology (NEIAAP) and Cotton University, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Health Psychology (IAHP), observed World Mental Health Month by organizing a National Workshop titled “Harnessing Mindfulness: The Path to Stress-Free Living.” Held today at Sudmersen Hall, Cotton University, the event aimed to raise awareness about mental health and provide practical tools for stress management through mindfulness.

The workshop was organized by Dr Dimpy Mahanta, Founding Head and Associate Professor of Psychology at Cotton University, who also serves as the President of NEIAAP. The event was facilitated by Prof. (Dr.) Mahendra Sharma, a former Head and Professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS, Bangalore. Prof. Anand Kumar, President of IAHP, attended as the Chief Guest.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, who praised the initiatives of NEIAAP and the Psychology Department under Dr Mahanta’s leadership in promoting mental health awareness among the youth of Northeast India.

Academic Registrar Dr Bedanta Bora and Dean of Human and Social Sciences Prof. Daisy Das were also present at the inaugural event.

Dr Mahanta highlighted the importance of mindfulness in reducing stress and helping individuals lead more fulfilling lives. The workshop provided both theoretical insights and practical training in mindfulness-based interventions, focusing on real-world applications in today’s fast-paced world. Prof. Sharma shared his experiences with mindfulness practices at the Behavioral Medicine Unit, NIMHANS.

The workshop saw participation from over 150 attendees from institutions such as NEHU Shillong, Assam Down Town University, Gauhati University, and USTM Meghalaya, making it a resounding success in promoting mental well-being.
