Cyclone Remal alert for Northeast, heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted from May 26

Northeast is bracing for impact as Cyclone Remal is expected to make landfall tomorrow over West Bengal and Odisha hit the region and bring along with it heavy rains and thunderstorms over the next 3 days.

As per the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over Mizoram, Tripura and South Manipur on May 26th and over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur & Tripura on 27th & 28th May. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Assam, Meghalaya on 27th & 28th May, Arunachal Pradesh on 28th May and Mizoram & Tripura on 27th May.

Moreover, squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is likely over Mizoram and Tripura and 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over South Assam and Meghalaya on 27th May.

As per IMD, heavy to heavy rainfall, thunderstorm along with lightning has been predicted at isolated places under Arunachal’s lower Subansiri and Keyi Panyor districts till May 28.

In Tripura, IMD has issued an orange alert. Thunderstorm with lightning and Gusty wind speech reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the South Tripura, Gomati Dhalai, Sepahijala and West Tripura districts today.
In rest of the districts of Tripura a yellow alert has been issued.

On May 27, thunderstorm with lightning and squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph with heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over South Tripura, Dhalai, Sepahijala, Gomati and West Tripura districts of Tripura with isolated extremely heavy over Gomati district.

On May 28, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over North Tripura, Unakoti and Dhalai districts. In rest of the districts, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over rest of the districts.

Remal is the first cyclone in the Bay of Bengal this pre-monsoon season.
Regarding weather warning on Day 1, thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind speed reaching upto 30-40kms per hour is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya.
