At a time when reports of several youths from Assam joining the ULFA-I independent has become a matter of concern for the authorities, now a Youth congress leader has been suspected to join the banned militant outfit.
The youth has been identified Janardan Gogoi, who hails from Sadiya, is the vice-president of the youth congress wing in Tinsukia.
Gogoi, who also held the position of media cell convenor for the youth congress, confirmed the development himself via a Facebook post.
In a letter addressed to his wife, he wrote: “Some people are conspiring to finish off the existence of the Assamese society. I have realised that some political parties and so called regional organisations have been doing business in the name of Assamese society.”
Gogoi further added: “Today, Assamese people have become helpless in their own motherland. I cannot become a mere spectator to attempts of eradicating the Assamese society.”
“This government has failed to listen to the opposition raised by the people in democratic manner. There is no alternative to armed rebellion to protect the interest of Assamese society,” the letter read.
Earlier this months, Congress leader and Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi said that youths are joining the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) largely due to lack of employment opportunities.
He also said the situation should be checked and the Centre should send a team of intelligence and security experts to find a solution.
