The Assam Police have decided to hand over two of the 10 cases related to the planting of explosives in several parts of the state by the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on Independence Day to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA will investigate the cases involving the recovery of explosives in Guwahati and Lakhimpur, while, Assam Police will continue to handle the remaining 8 cases, said Assam DGP GP Singh.
Speaking to media, DGP GP Singh said that the decision to involve the NIA aims to leverage the agency’s specialized capabilities in handling explosives-related investigations.
The DGP further said that the investigation into the cases is moving in the right direction and so far 4 persons who have been arrested from different parts of the state are being interrogated in Sivasagar. One of them has confessed to planting the explosive-like substances.
