ULFA-I Bomb Threat In Assam on Independence Day: Bomb-Like Substances Found From 2 Locations In Guwahati

The ULFA-Independent statement said that the bombs did not explode due to what it called technical reasons.
Amid heightened Independence Day alert across Assam, the Police today recovered bomb-like substances from 2 areas in Guwahati forcing authorities to further beef up security.
The recovery came after the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) first put out a bomb threat yesterday and followed it up with an email this morning giving the locations where the supposed bombs were planted.
The ULFA-Independent statement said that the bombs did not explode due to what it called technical reasons.
Bomb squads of the police and sniffer dogs were pressed into service in the locations disclosed by the ULFA-Independent leading to the discovery of explosive-like substances in Pan Bazar (heart of the city and a busy locality) and Gandhi Mandap area in Guwahati.
Speaking to media, Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah said, “As claimed by the ULFA-I in its statement issued yesterday and this morning, bombs were planted in as many as 8 locations in Guwahati, we launched search operations and found explosives-like substances in two locations, while we did not find anything in other 6 locations.”
It may be mentioned that the ULFA-I in the mail claimed that explosives had been planted in around 25 locations in Guwahati, Sivasagar, Lakua, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Laluk, Borghat, Nalbari, Tamulpur and Dibrugarh.
Reacting to the development Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that at a time when the state received an investment of Rs 2700 crore in the form of a semiconductor plant, an atmosphere of apprehension and concern should not be created in the state.
Chief Minister Sarma said that Assam is on the path of progress after years even as he requested ULFA-Independent chief Paresh Baruah to not create a situation which discourages investment.
CM Sarma reiterated that he is always open to dialogue.
Meanwhile, Assam DGP GP Singh took to X and wrote, “Assam Police has carried out extensive searches throughout the State today for Explosive devices. At two places in Guwahati suspicious articles were found which were opened by Bomb Disposal Squad of Police. These articles do not have ignition devices inside although some circuits and batteries are seen. The substance inside is being sent for forensic/chemical examination. Similar articles have been seen at Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Nalbari & Nagaon which have been safely disposed. In this connection, appropriate lawful investigation has been initiated.”
