TMC formally launches Assam chapter; Mukul Sangma rules out Congress rumors

Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma has rubbished speculations doing rounds of him planning to join the Congress again.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday formally launched its Assam chapter inducting over a dozen Congress workers and members into the party fold.

TMC MP Mohuya Moitra, party Assam president Ripun Bora, party leader from Barak Valley Sushmita Dev, and former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma were present during the occasion.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, TMC MP Mohua Moitra said that the need of the hour is to fight BJP’s alleged divisive politics and it is the TMC’s responsibility to provide an alternative to the people.

Meanwhile, Assam TMC president Ripun Bora ruled out the possibility of any alliance with Congress.

Meghalaya leader of the opposition and senior Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma has rubbished speculations doing rounds of him planning to join the Congress again.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live the former Meghalaya CM termed the speculations as nothing but fabricated and baseless.

Meanwhile, speaking on the TMC’s preparations for the ensuing Assembly polls in Meghalaya, Sangma said the aim is to get to the grassroots and take the challenges head-on. He reiterated that the aim of the TMC is to provide a political alternative to the people.

However, Sangma refused to comment on whether the TMC will go for a pre-poll alliance in Meghalaya.
