In a major crackdown on terror in Assam, the Assam Police has arrested 6 people from Barpeta, who are allegedly linked to Bangladesh-based Al-Qaeda.

The arrested accused were identified as Mufti Suleman Ali, Jahidul Islam, Saddam Hussain, Rasikul Hussain, Mushraf Hussain and Makibul Hussain.

Police have also seized 15 mobile phones, 20 sim cards and other incriminating documents form their possession. Out of the 6, one is directly connected to the PFI, as told by the Assam Police.

It is also learnt that the six accused were trying to radicalize more people as part of their operations. Earlier last month, 5 more were arrested for alleged links with the jehadi group based out of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Al-Qaeda has been designated as a terrorist group by the United Nations Security Council the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the European Union, India and various other countries and has been behind many dastardly attacks killing thousands across the world.
