Sikkim flash floods: Missing Indian Army soldier from Assam Mitu Kalita found dead

Mitu Das went missing after the Lhonar lake outburst on October 4

Mitu Das, an Army soldier hailing from Assam who went missing in the devastating Sikkim flash floods has been found dead. As per inputs, family members were able to identify his body which was kept at a hospital in Jalpaiguri (West Bengal).

Das reportedly went missing since October 5, hours after the lake outburst caused the Teesta to overflow thereby causing massive destruction downstream. As per reports, Mitu works in Alipurduar and he went to Sikkim on departmental orders.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also condoled the demise of Mitu Kalita. In a post on X, Chief Minister Sarma wrote, “शहीद जवान अमर रहे 🇮🇳
A tragic loss for Assam as it loses a braveheart in Mitul Kalita of Indian Army, from Baksa District, in the unfortunate flash flood in Sikkim.
My prayers for the departed soul & condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief.
Om Shanti 🙏”

BTR Chief Pramod Boro also conveyed his condolence. He said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of Baksa’s braveheart Mitul Kalita in the unfortunate flash flood in Sikkim.
My prayers for the departed soul and convey my sincere condolences to the bereaved family members in this hour of immense grief & personal loss. Om Shanti!”

The body of the deceased is expected to reach his home at Ananda Bazar in Baksa later this evening.
