Ever heard of bribe in exchange for a dead body? Well, one such act of cruelty has come to the light in Mangaldoi, Assam, where a sweeper of a hospital in Mangaldoi has demanded a sum of Rs 8,000 from the deceased’s family to carry the body to the burial ground for cremation.
The body of the deceased was lying in the mortuary of Mangaldai Civil Hospital for 70–80 hours as the deceased’s family couldn’t arrange the money.
The deceased has been identified as Chandan Gupta.
The family members of the deceased had to seek help from the public, and looking at the helplessness of the deceased’s family, many shopkeepers came forward and donated whatever they could
after which the last rites of the deceased were finally performed.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
