Shocker from Assam hospital: 4th grade employee treats child

An incident of medical negligence has come to fore in a hospital in Assam, where a patient was treated by a fourth-grade employee without the knowledge of the doctor.

The incident took place at Mukalmua sub-divisional civil hospital in Assam’s Nalbari district.

An 8-year-old child was brought to the hospital after receiving injuries to his hand after falling from a tree while playing.

A fourth grade employee took the child to a room, plastered his hand, and prescribed some medicines.

After the treatment, the employee asked for Rs. 400 as a check-up fee from the child’s father.

Shockingly, the doctor who was on duty was unaware of the incident. The doctor was treating other patients in the maternity department when the incident took place.

The incident came to light only when other family members of the child reached the hospital.

Following which, the fourth-grade employee fled from the hospital and tore the prescription.

The doctor on duty later reached the Emergency room and treated the child.

The incident has now raised serious concerns on the lapses in the treatment of patients. Will the Nalbari District Health Department take action against the employee?
