Road Accidents in Assam Increase by 45%, Fatalities Drop by 25% in First Half of 2024

In the first six months of 2024, there were 1,248 fatalities, down from 1,670 in the same period last year.

Assam has seen a 45 per cent surge in the number of road accidents in the first 6 months of 2024, up from 3,746 recorded in the same period of 2023. But the good news is that there has been a 25 per cent drop in the number of fatalities from road accidents, as per data shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In the first six months of 2024, there were 1,248 fatalities, down from 1,670 in the same period last year.

Taking to X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Sharing the road accident data for the first 6 months of 2024. 2 main observations come out from the report Road Accidents have gone up by 45% resulting in more injuries Fatalities have come down by 25% due to timely medical assistance and treatment Safe Drive, Safe Life!”

The number of injuries from road accidents has also seen a drastic rise. A total of 7,360 people were injured in road accidents during the period compared to 2,907 injuries in the same period of 2023.
