In a massive setback for the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), former Congress leader and ex-Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora has joined the All India Trinamool Congress after resigning from the party on Sunday.

The development was confirmed by the general secretary of TMC and MP Abhishek Banerjee on twitter. He wrote: “Extending a very warm welcome to Shri @ripunbora, a stalwart and skilled politician, who joined the @AITCofficial family today. We are extremely pleased to have you onboard and look forward to working together for the well-being of our people!”

Meanwhile, APCC president Bhupen Bora said that he was shocked by the news of Ripun Bora quitting the party.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Bhupen Bora said, “I am really shocked and surprised because he claimed that he would remain a Congress person till his death. But all of a sudden I received his resignation letter where he mentioned that he is very upset because few senior leaders are in touch with the Chief Minister of Assam.”

“I think he lost his integrity and he has now proved that his only intention is to engage himself in some suitable post and he is not committed to his ideology,” Bora further added.

Ripun Bora has sent his resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi informing her of his decision where he blamed the infighting within the party for his decision.
