President Ram Nath Kovind to arrive in Assam today

President Ram Nath Kovind is all set to arrive in Assam today on a three-day visit. The President is scheduled to land at the LGBI Airport at around 11:30 AM,

President Ram Nath Kovind is all set to arrive in Assam today on a three-day visit. The President is scheduled to land at the LGBI Airport at around 11:30 AM, following which he will be heading towards the Kamakhya temple. President Kovind will be accompanied by Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

President Kovind said he would be kick-starting the celebrations to mark the 400th birth anniversary of the legendary Ahom general, Lachit Barphukan.

During the course of his three-day visit, the President is also scheduled to visit the Kaziranga National Park and attend the convocation ceremony at Tezpur University.

In view of the President’s arrival today, large-scale preparations have been made in Guwahati. Some major road links within the city would be closed for the smooth movement of the President’s cavalcade.

With several flyovers still under construction in the city, several roads will be cordoned off on February 25 and 26.

Several arterial roads in the city, like AT Road, MG Road, B Baruah Road, Panjabari Road, and Srimanta Sankardev Road, will be closed today from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The movement of heavy vehicles would also be restricted.

On the other hand, the road connecting Six Mile to Khanapara and the Panjabari road would be closed from 5 pm to 6:46 pm. Meanwhile, the Maligaon-Pandu road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The administration has called for people to not take these routes today and instead take other routes to commute in Guwahati.
