President Kovind urges Assam govt to promote Bodo extensively

The final day of the 61st session of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha was held today in the presence of President Ram Nath Kovind, Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Addressing the gathering, President Kovind spoke on the importance of the Bodo language which is spoken by at least 35 lakh people in Assam. Besides, President Kovind also stated that people in the neighbouring states as well as in Bangladesh and Nepal also speak in Bodo.
In this regard, he appealed the Assam government to promote the Bodo language as much as possible.
And it was during the session that Assam Chief Minister Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a big announcement concerning the Bodo language. Chief Minister Sarma informed that Bodo medium will be introduced in classes 11 and 12 across select schools in Assam. Further, Chief Minister Sarma also announced a fund of Rs 50 lakh for the construction of an office of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha in districts inhabitated by people of the bodo community. And not just this, Chief Minister Sarma also announced an additional Rs 5 crore as a revolving fund for the Bodo Sahitya Sabha.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who also addressed the gathering, emphasised on the inclusion of languages of different tribes and communities, stating that it will only lead to a stronger integration. Chief Minister Sangma appealed that languages of the diverse tribes and communities of the northeast should be promoted and protected for the long term interest of the people.
