In a horrific incident reported from Assam, a pregnant woman and her niece were allegedly gang-raped by a group of eight men in the state’s Nagaon district.
The incident has been reported from Dhing town of Nagaon.
The pregnant woman’s husband stated that on Tuesday, May 2 his wife and niece went to the Meratola area and were waiting for a ride to return home, when a group of eight men allegedly approached them and committed the crime. They have even snatched their mobile phones.
Hearing the ladies’ cries for help, an autorickshaw driver who was nearby, rushed to the spot and was able to rescue them from the perpetrators’ clutches.
The victim women have also filed a complaint with the Jajori Police Station against the perpetrators.
In their complaint filed with the police, they named Shahjahan, Naseeruddin, Bajibul Islam, Anar Hussain, and Habijul among others as the perpetrators.
However police is yet to nab any of the perpetrators.
It may be mentioned here that this is the second case of gang rape in Assam within a month.
In April, a woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of 9 men and left by the roadside in Assam’s Hajo.
The victim was allegedly drugged and raped by a group of men while she was on her way to Dhemaji from Guwahati’s Khanapara.
